Why Website Backups Are Essential

Every website owner needs regular backups. WordPress sites can be compromised by hacking, plugins can break things, updates can cause conflicts, and accidental deletions happen. Without a recent backup, data loss can be permanent. A few minutes spent on backup setup can save your entire website.

How to Create a Manual Backup in hPanel

  1. Login to hPanel → click Backups
  2. Select your website from the dropdown
  3. Click Create Backup
  4. Wait for the backup to complete (usually 1-5 minutes)
  5. Download the backup file to your local computer for extra safety

How to Restore From Backup in hPanel

  1. Login to hPanel → click Backups
  2. Select your website
  3. Find the backup date you want to restore to
  4. Click Restore
  5. Confirm the restoration — your site will revert to that backup point
  6. Wait for restoration to complete (1-10 minutes depending on site size)
Warning: Restoring a backup overwrites your current website with the backup version. Any changes made after the backup date will be lost. Always create a fresh backup of your current state before restoring an older backup.

Additional Backup with UpdraftPlus (WordPress)

For extra protection, install the free UpdraftPlus plugin on WordPress:

  1. Dashboard → Plugins → Add New → UpdraftPlus → Install → Activate
  2. Settings → UpdraftPlus Backups → choose backup schedule
  3. Select remote storage: Google Drive, Dropbox, or Amazon S3
  4. UpdraftPlus backs up automatically to your chosen cloud storage
3-2-1 Backup Rule: Keep 3 copies of your data, on 2 different storage types, with 1 copy offsite. For websites: Hostinger's backup + UpdraftPlus to Google Drive = excellent protection following this rule.
