What is hPanel and Why Hostinger Built It
Most web hosts use cPanel — a control panel that was designed in the late 1990s and hasn't changed much since. It works, but it's cluttered, confusing for beginners, and not particularly fast. When I first logged into cPanel on my old host, I spent 20 minutes just trying to find where to install WordPress.
Hostinger built hPanel from scratch to solve this problem. It's cleaner, faster, and logically organized around what you actually need to do — manage websites, set up domains, create emails, and handle files. After using both for years, I genuinely prefer hPanel for day-to-day site management. If you're just starting out, this is covered in detail in my Hostinger review where I compare it to cPanel hosts like Bluehost.

Go to hpanel.hostinger.com and log in with the email and password you used to sign up. If you forgot your password, click "Forgot password" — Hostinger sends a reset link immediately.
The dashboard shows all your hosting plans at the top. If you have multiple websites, each appears as a separate card. Click "Manage" on whichever website you want to work on — this takes you into that site's specific hPanel.
The Main hPanel Sections — What Each One Does
1. Website Section
This is where you manage your WordPress installation. From here you can:
- Go directly to your WordPress admin dashboard without re-entering a password
- Update WordPress core, themes, and plugins in bulk
- Create a staging site — a private copy of your site where you can test changes safely
- Change your PHP version (important for performance — use 8.2 for best results)
- Set up caching and performance settings
- View error logs if something breaks
The auto-login to WordPress from hPanel is one of my favourite features. You click one button and you're in your WordPress dashboard — no separate username/password needed. For sites where I'm making frequent content updates, this saves a lot of time. If you want to understand why WordPress is the platform to build on, read my guide on best WordPress hosting 2026.
2. Files Section
The Files section contains:
- File Manager — A visual file browser where you can upload, edit, move, and delete files directly on your server without needing FTP software
- FTP Accounts — Create FTP credentials if you prefer to use software like FileZilla for file transfers
- Backups — Download backups of your site files and database
For most changes, the File Manager is sufficient. I only use FTP when I need to transfer a large number of files at once — FTP is faster for bulk transfers. The File Manager is better for quick edits like changing a single file.
3. Databases Section
WordPress stores all your content — posts, pages, settings, comments — in a MySQL database. The Databases section lets you:
- Create new databases
- Manage existing databases with phpMyAdmin
- Create database users and assign permissions
- Import and export database files (.sql)
Most beginners never need to touch this section — WordPress manages its own database automatically. The one situation where you'll need it is if you're migrating a site from another host manually, which requires importing the old database.
4. Domains Section
Everything related to your domain name lives here:
- Domain List — All domains connected to your hosting
- DNS Zone Editor — Change DNS records (A records, CNAME, MX records)
- Subdomains — Create subdomains like blog.yourdomain.com or store.yourdomain.com
- Domain Redirects — Redirect one domain to another
- Parked Domains — Point additional domains at your main site
The DNS Zone Editor is where you'll make changes if you need to connect a third-party email service or verify domain ownership for tools like Google Search Console. Understanding domain management is essential — check my domain name registration guide for the full picture.
5. Emails Section
Set up professional email accounts on your custom domain. From here:
- Create email accounts like contact@yourdomain.com
- Access Webmail to read/send emails from the browser
- Set up email forwarding to send incoming emails to another address
- Configure spam filters
- View email logs
- Get IMAP/SMTP settings to connect your email to Gmail, Outlook, or any mobile app
Having a professional email on your custom domain is essential for AdSense approval and affiliate program applications. Using a Gmail address for a business website looks unprofessional — this takes 10 minutes to set up and costs nothing extra with Hostinger Premium.
6. Advanced Section
This section contains technical tools most beginners won't need regularly:
- SSH Access — Connect to your server via command line (useful for bulk operations)
- Cron Jobs — Schedule automated tasks to run at specific times
- PHP Configuration — Adjust PHP settings like memory limit and execution time
- SSL Certificates — Manage HTTPS/SSL — renew, install, or force HTTPS
- IP Manager — Block specific IP addresses from accessing your site
Installing WordPress Through hPanel — Step by Step
This is the most common task for new Hostinger users. The process takes about 2 minutes:
- Log into hPanel → click Websites in the left sidebar
- Click Add Website → select WordPress
- Enter your website title and a WordPress admin email address
- Choose your domain from the dropdown
- Click Install — WordPress installs automatically
- When complete, click the link in hPanel to go directly to your WordPress dashboard
The entire process — from clicking "Add Website" to having a working WordPress installation — takes under 3 minutes. There's no manual database creation, no FTP upload, no configuration files to edit. This is one of the main reasons I recommend Hostinger for beginners. For a deeper look at the full setup process, see my step-by-step article on how to install WordPress on Hostinger.
Setting Up Free SSL in hPanel
SSL (HTTPS) is required for Google rankings, AdSense approval, and visitor trust. In hPanel:
- Go to Advanced → SSL
- Click Install SSL next to your domain
- Hostinger installs a free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate automatically
- Then click Force HTTPS to redirect all HTTP traffic to HTTPS
The SSL certificate renews automatically every 90 days — you never have to worry about it expiring. This is included free on all Hostinger plans.
PHP Version — Why It Matters and How to Change It
PHP is the programming language that runs WordPress. Newer versions are significantly faster. PHP 8.2 is currently the fastest stable version — WordPress sites on PHP 8.2 load measurably faster than the same site on PHP 7.4.
To change PHP version in hPanel:
- Go to Website → PHP Configuration
- Select PHP 8.2 from the dropdown
- Click Update
- Test your website immediately — a small number of older plugins are incompatible with PHP 8.2. If your site breaks, switch to PHP 8.1.
Creating a Staging Site
A staging site is a private copy of your live website where you can test changes — new themes, plugin updates, major redesigns — before pushing them to your real site. If something breaks on staging, your live site is unaffected.
In hPanel: Website → Staging → Create Staging. Hostinger creates a complete copy of your site at a temporary URL. When you're satisfied with the changes, click "Push to Live" and the staging version replaces the live site.
This feature is available on Hostinger's Business plan and above. For most bloggers starting out, it's not immediately necessary — but once you have significant traffic and can't afford downtime, it becomes essential.
Managing Backups in hPanel
Hostinger creates weekly automatic backups on the Premium plan and daily backups on Business plan and above. To access them:
- Go to Files → Backups
- You'll see a list of available restore points
- Click Restore next to any backup to roll back your entire site
- Or click Download to save a backup file locally
hPanel vs cPanel — Honest Comparison
| Feature | hPanel | cPanel |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner friendly | Excellent | Average — very cluttered |
| WordPress management | Integrated, 1-click | Via Softaculous add-on |
| Staging sites | Built-in | Requires add-on |
| Auto-login to WordPress | Yes | No |
| Interface speed | Fast | Average |
| Advanced tools | Good | Excellent |
| Industry familiarity | Hostinger only | Used by most hosts |
The main advantage of cPanel is familiarity — developers who've worked with many hosting providers know cPanel well. But for a beginner building their first affiliate site or blog, hPanel is genuinely easier to navigate. This is one reason I consistently recommend Hostinger for new site owners alongside the best cheap web hosting options.

Can I use hPanel for multiple websites?
Yes — Hostinger Premium plan allows up to 100 websites managed from the same hPanel account. Each website gets its own section within hPanel with separate WordPress installations, databases, email accounts, and file storage. You switch between websites from the main hPanel dashboard by clicking "Manage" on each one.
Is hPanel available in languages other than English?
Yes — hPanel supports multiple languages. Go to your account settings (click your profile icon, top right) → select your preferred language. The interface will switch immediately. Available languages include English, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and several others.
Can I access hPanel from mobile?
Yes — hPanel is fully responsive and works on mobile browsers. Hostinger also has a mobile app (available on iOS and Android) that provides access to the most common hPanel functions. For quick tasks like checking site status or restarting services, the app works well. For complex tasks like editing files or configuring DNS, the desktop browser version is more practical.
